PETER DE KOCK / DIRECTOR / SCENARIO

For me this documentary is a dream come true. The plan to make the film originated eleven years ago. Since then, the process of trying to get it realised, presented me with a vast number of contradictions, mysteries and secrets. Hundreds of different versions of the scenario saw the light. Finally, it all seems to come together. All the work of the past adding up to a truly special documentary.

I worked a lot with Peter in the past. I know the idea for this film originated over a decade ago. There where a good idea should originate: In the pub. Years ago Holland had a name when it came to documentaries, but since accountants took over we merely make items, or reportages. The true essence of filmmaking, creating a relationship between form, style and content seems to have vanished. Up until now! Our first day of shooting (16 hrs.) went great. We became one with the environment, blended in with the slums of São Paolo. Documentary made the only way it should be made. I feel privileged to be a member of this crew.

ERNESTINA VAN DE NOORT / INTERPRETER / TRANSLATOR

In Vallegrande, where he lay with dead, open eyes, Che Guevara is honoured through home made altars. People pray to “El Che” for miracles. In the church of the village a Christ like figure lies, bearing a remarkable resemblance to Guevara. In La Paz, on the back of a taxi, the portrait of Guevara is stuck next to that of Bin Laden. Che belongs to all.
To me his portrait was not much more than an empty symbol. Because of my travels to Cuba he became of flesh and blood. Now, while retracing the journey of his hands, the myth finally gets hold of me.
Whether we are going to solve the mystery or not, it’s definitely an adventure to pursue it with this crew.

Peters enthusiasm and my love for Latin American countries made this trip an unforgettable experience for me. A beautiful trek through the Andes with only one mission: solving the mystery surrounding the disappeared hands of Che.
Finally meeting the people we had so much contact with throughout the research was also very special. It was a truly fascinating mixture of "couleur locale" on one hand and the beautiful stories of men who claim to have fulfilled an important role in this history, on the other.
